Pinehaven Tournament Information
It wouldn't be a Suave Sabbatical if there were just one tournament taking place throughout the week, so here's ALL the juice...
- Survivor - A 2-person best ball team event where the 2-3 teams with the worst scores each day are eliminated, leaving just one team remaining at the end of Friday's round at Southern Pines
- Pinehaven 2-Man - Teams compete over five rounds, with the top half of the field qualifying for the horse race at Pine Needles' The Loop on Friday afternoon to determine the P2M champion
- The Pinecone Cup - A 12 v. 12 Ryder Cup-esque competition pitting half the field against the other. A combination of four ball and singles matches contested over five rounds (Mon-Fri)
Optional Afternoon Golf
The Carolina sandhills have an abundance of top-flight, internationally renowned golf within a half hours drive. After each morning's round, guests have a plethora of options should they want to play more than 18 holes per day.
Pinehurst Resort - There are 7 more golf courses at Pinehurst Resort that aren't part of Pinehaven. You are welcome and encouraged to sample any of these in the afternoon. We recommend getting at least one round in at #3, which feels similar to a smaller version of #2 and #4. Greens fees start at $50 for afternoon replays.
Pine Needles, Mid Pines & Southern Pines - During the second half of the trip, you can replay the same course as the morning's round for just $75.
Tobacco Road - one of the most fun and unique golf courses in the United States, and just a 20 minute drive from Pine Needles and 30 minutes from Pinehurst.
The Golf
Pinehurst #4 (Sunday) - A great test with bold greens and vast expanses of sand exposed along the fringes of the course and cross-bunkers. Dramatic vistas and elevation changes help explain why this course was chosen to host the 2019 U.S. Amateur just one year after it reopened in 2018 following Hanse’s redesign.
- Architect: Donald Ross (1908), redesigned by Gil Hanse (2018)
- Rankings: U.S. Public #25, #5 in North Carolina (NC)
- Tournament History: US Amateur (2019)

Pinehurst #8 (Monday) - Opened in 1996 to celebrate Pinehurst’s first 100 years, earning it the nickname “The Centennial Course.” No. 8 features dramatic contours, elevation changes and movements in the fairways with beautiful views of wetlands and longleaf pines. Before No. 10 opened, it was universally lauded as the best non-Donald Ross course at Pinehurst resort.
- Architect: Tom Fazio (1996)
- Rankings: #24 in North Carolina

Pinehurst #2 (Tuesday) Donald Ross' masterpiece and one of the crown jewels of American golf. The centerpiece of Pinehaven 2025 is one of the best golf courses in the world and has hosted some of the most memorable U.S. Opens of the past 25 years.
- Architect: Donald Ross (1907), restored by Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw (2007)
- Rankings: #13 USA Overall, US Public #2, #1 in NC

Pinehurst #10 (Wednesday) - Give a talented architect a sandy, rolling piece of land and place few restrictions on him or her, and it’s amazing what can be produced. Donald Ross did so with a flourish in this region, and this time, it was Tom Doak’s turn.
- Architect: Tom Doak (2024)
- Rankings: #88 USA Overall, US Public #15, #4 in NC

Mid Pines (Thursday) - Not intended to be a daunting challenge for the finest players competing under championship conditions, but was envisioned as a course that would offer friendly competition for members and guests of a private club and resort. However, fanatics and pros have taken note of the perfectly preserved course and Mid Pines has become a classic Carolina gem.
- Architect: Donald Ross (1921), restored by Kyle Franz (2013)

Southern Pines (Friday) - Located in the center of the Village of Southern Pines, this 6,500-yard vintage course has drawn locals, professionals and tourists alike since 1906. It’s the third original course Donald Ross ever designed — after the front nine of Pinehurst #2 and the 18-hole Winchester Country Club course in 1901.

Pine Needles (Saturday) - Pine Needles’ award-winning golf course is the first in the nation to be awarded four U.S. Women’s Open Championships.
